Student summer jobs and internships aren’t just about making money to pay for school, they can be a great opportunity for future business leaders to learn first-hand how the non-profit sector operates. A select group of students from the Richard Ivey School of Business are spending their summer working at non-profit agencies across London offering their energy and insight on a wide range of business issues.
A short mallet stroke goes a long way next week when faculty and staff take part in a croquet fundraising tournament on University College Hill on Wednesday, August 22 from 2 to 7 p.m. The tournament will support Western Heads East, an award-winning homegrown project providing nutritional support to communities in Africa as a means of building resistance against HIV/AIDS and other diseases. The entry fee of $20 per team (four players per team) will directly support Western Heads East.

Opening Thursday, August 16 and continuing to Sunday, September 9, is this year's exhibition by Western's Department of Visual Arts Masters of Fine Arts candidate, Todd Tremeer, whose work examines "history painting" and the narrative construction of the past.
The Hume Cronyn Memorial Observatory (next to Alumni Hall) is the site of a series of free open houses this summer, every Saturday evening until August 25, 8:30 to 11 p.m. Several experts from Western’s Department of Physics & Astronomy act as hosts and a brief slide show is held at 8:30 p.m.
Applications are being sought for the first two Emerging Leaders community projects. OnBoard! seeks to establish emerging leaders on city-wide boards, councils and advisory bodies. MentorNET is a city-wide mentorship network connecting established business and community leaders with promising emerging leaders. Applications for both programs will be accepted via the Emerging Leaders website (www.emergingleaders.ca) from July 27 - August 17.
They will provide care for victims of a simulated disaster, help deliver a (robotic) baby, read x-rays, and practice doing splints and casts. Young medical hopefuls across Southwestern Ontario are getting a taste this month of what it's like to be a doctor with MedQUEST, a summer camp designed to encourage more students from the region to apply to medical school.
Western is looking for help in selecting its next official ambassador. The Board of Governors and Senate have established an electoral board to select Western’s next chancellor.
Western’s Don Wright Faculty of Music's adult programs are among the most popular activities on campus. Women's Choir, running from September 9 to October 21, is designed for adult singers seeking a combination of group vocal instruction and choral singing.
Western’s Hospitality Services staff put their hearts to the test recently for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The ‘Western Foodies’ as they called themselves, took part in the Big Bike Ride on June 14 raising $5,000 for the cause.
