Concerned with ethnic war, he has traveled to Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Afghanistan to consider the mixture of moral solidarity and hubris that led Western nations to embark on the campaign of "putting the world to rights."

Currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Nova Scotia, and Director of Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, he is an active member of London's community in the social services, health care, education and political sectors.
