Economics Professor Emeritus Ron Wonnacott's association with Western spans nearly five decades and his 1967 book, Free Trade Between the U.S. and Canada, revolutionized ideas about Canada's trade policy. He will receive his honorary degree in front of graduates in the Faculty of Social Science.

Stephen Davis is a highly respected researcher in the field of fluid mechanics. Editor of the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Davis has authored 200 refereed technical papers on fluid mechanics and materials science. He spoke to graduates in the Faculties of Science and Graduate Studies.

Joan Smith has dedicated more than four decades to public service as a volunteer, politician and social activist.The first woman to hold the position of government Whip in Ontario, Smith is also a former London Alderman and Controller. She will speak to graduates from Brescia College, Huron University College and King's College.

The Globe and Mail's Jeffrey Simpson is an award-winning national affairs columnist and recipient of a Governor-General's award for non-fiction book writing. He was also named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2000. Simpson received his honorary degree in front of graduates from the Faculties of Education and Graduate Studies.
