François Bourguignon is internationally recognized as an intellectual leader in the economics of public policy, inequality and economic growth and development.
Bourguignon has also served as an advisor to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations, European Commission, and was a member of the Council of Economic Advisors to the French Prime Minister. He became Chief Economist and Senior Vice-President of the World Bank in 2003.
He is currently on leave from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, at which he has served as Professor of Economics since 1985.
