Recent information suggests units are interpreting the application of Sabbatical Leave cl. 21 variably in calculating the PAI for Sabbaticants who opt to receive the same assessment as in the year prior. Following review of the FCA and consultation with UWOFA, it is OFR's advice that in applying this clause, the unit should use the committee/designate's assessment (categorizations under APE clause 11.5, as converted in C&B clause 27.2) and re-weight it according to workload balance in the 3 year period under review - as opposed to simply using the same PAI as the year prior. This is the preferred approach given that there may have been workload balance changes from the prior assessment which impact PAI.
