Before the Twilight series came out, I took a course exploring why vampires surge in popularity during times of economic stress. The course was called "From Bram to Buffy: Vampires in Film, Television and Print," and years after graduating I am still excited talking to incoming students and friends about the great courses and experiences offered at Western.
When choosing your courses for first year, make sure you take a peek at the upper-year courses to ensure you have the pre-requisites for your favourites. You are going to be exposed to new ideas and learn a lot, so pursue what interests you. If you're unsure about which electives to take, try browsing other faculties like MIT (Media, Information and Technoculture). That's where I found my vampires course!
As a Vancouver Branch Executive, I look forward to all the Western events in town and am impressed by the support and camaraderie of everyone who comes out. Volunteering at Off to Western is my way of supporting new students, like an enthusiastic big sister, and showing that you can be a part of Western from wherever you are.
