The Student Development Centre (SDC) is home to a variety of services specially designed to meet the needs of students on campus. Its staff members are highly trained and experienced professionals who know what campus life is all about.
Writing Support Centre
The goal of the Writing Support Centre is to help you develop your skills and realize your potential as a writer. To achieve this goal, the SDC offers free comprehensive writing support to students.
Indigenous Services
Indigenous Services offer counselling services and programs to First Nations, Métis and Inuit students in an encouraging and supportive environment. IS provides outreach and recruitment services through educational presentations to students and through the promotion of postsecondary education, First Nation Services relays information on Western’s services and programs, admission requirements, financial assistance, and student life. They are also pleased to offer a specialized research and resource book materials collection on Native issues.
International Students
International students at Western can take advantage of Student Development Centre's International and Exchange Student Centre offerings - a full range of services and programs specifically tailored to meet the needs of international students and enhance their academic, social, and cultural experience at the university:
Learning Skills Services
SDC's Learning Skills Counsellors provide information and support to help Western students achieve academic success. Learning Skills Services is for all students: undergraduate and graduate students, students who experience academic setbacks, as well as students who want to maintain exceptional academic standing.
Psychological Services
The SDC provides professional, confidential psychological services free of charge to all Western students including individual counselling, crisis counselling, LGBT2Q, eating disorders, self-help library, and a multitude of workshops.
Students With Disabilities
The SDC has staff members who specialize in assisting students with various disabilities to adjust to the university environment. These disabilities include, but are not limited to, vision, hearing and mobility impairments, learning disabilities, chronic illnesses, chronic pain, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders.
