Student Health Services (SHS) is a medical, counseling, and educational facility that is available to all registered part-time and full-time students at Western and its affiliated colleges. SHS provides; medical care, counseling, nursing care, birth control information, allergy injections, immunizations, STI testing, laboratory services, physiotherapy, and massage therapy.
Located in the basement of the University Community Centre, SHS provides great services all in one convenient location in the centre of campus.
Hours:
Monday-Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Summer Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
How do I make a medical appointment at SHS?
- Phone 519-661-3030 or drop in to the office in advance of the day that you would like to see a doctor. Same day appointments can be accommodated but get in touch with the office first thing in the morning.
- You’re going to be asked for your student number, your current address and phone number, your O.H.I.P or health card number, and why you are making the appointment
- You can request: a time/ date for your appointment, a male or female physician, request a different physicion from the one offered.
If you are late for your appointment by more than five minutes then your appointment will be cancelled and you will be billed. At least 24 hours notice is required to avoid the no-show/ late cancellation fee.
Counselling
The counseling centre is available to all students. Medical or emotional concerns can affect both well-being and academic success. Some typical problems the people come to counseling for include: stress, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, alcohol and drug use, family and relationship problems and sexual difficulties.

Student Emergency Response Team (SERT)
SERT is a student run volunteer first responder emergency team that is dispatched to all 911 emergency calls on campus in conjunction with other emergency services. SERT responds in co-ed teams, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year. SERT provides First Aid, CPR and First Responder trainings.
How can I volunteer with SERT?
- Applications are available in the first two weeks in September pick up an application at their office (Room 30, SHS, Basement of UCC)
- Applicants must attach a photocopy of their up-to-date qualifications in Red Cross Standard First Aid
