Good evening Western Engineering!
This is the first update from the Western Engineering Toboggan Team (WETT) in lieu of the 2012 Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR) from Calgary, Alberta. Over the past few months, WETT has put in a considerable amount of work and effort into our toboggan and could not be more excited to get this competition started off on the right foot. This is the 38th running of the oldest engineering competition in Canada and will feature toboggans from 20 other schools. I have been ecstatically waiting this competition to arrive since my first experience at GNCTR last year in Edmonton. Meeting other engineering students from across Canada makes GNCTR one of the most fun weeks of the year for me. Seeing how other teams approach the common design problem of a 300lb, 5 rider, concrete running surface toboggan is a fascinating experience, which will only be more enjoyable this year, now that I have a greater understanding of many of the engineering principles behind the designs. On this blog, expect competition updates from activities day, to the technical exhibit, and, of course, race day. WETT has put in many new initiatives and designs for this year’s competition, which we think will give us a great chance to bring some awards back to Western and do our school proud. Please leave a comment if there is anything specific that you would like WETT to update. We are always eager to describe the thought processes that went into the design of our toboggan, or provide behind-the-scenes updates from GNCTR. Keep watching for the latest updates from GNCTR. And remember, WETT’R is BETT’R! Rob Volcko WETT Concrete Leader 2011/12

Good luck to all members of WETT and also on your bid to host GNCTR here at Western in 2014!
