Dear Colleagues,
We have recently signed a Letter of Understanding with UWOFA in order to clarify the eligibility of Part-Time Members to serve on Collective Agreement committees. The challenge brought to our attention was that a Part-Time Member may be eligible to be nominated or elected, but may not be a
Member during the entire period of operation of the Committee.
The Letter of Understanding states:
For the purpose of eligibility to be nominated and elected to a Collective Agreement committee as listed below, a Part-time Member is only eligible if the Member holds a Standing Appointment; the Standing Appointment may be from a Unit other than the Unit striking the Committee.
1. The Annual Performance Evaluation committee as described in clause 4.1 of the article Annual Performance Evaluation.
2. The Appointments committee as described in clause 5.6(d) of the article Appointments.
3. The Workload committee as described in clause 3.1 of the article Workload.
We will be updating the Part-time Member/Preferred Status to include the Standing Appointment information from other Units as soon as possible.
In addition to the above, we have clarified that a faculty member must be a Member (i.e. under contract) at the time of the election, inorder to vote.
Please feel free to contact your FRC if you need furtherclarification or guidance.
Regards,
Michele Parkin
