The Teaching Assistant Training Program (TATP) invites applications for five instructor positions for the 2015-2016 academic year.
TATP Instructors facilitate 2.5-day workshops over weekends in August and September that help Teaching Assistants develop their skills as instructors. Successful candidates teach a variety of sessions that focus on designing effective lectures, facilitating labs and classroom discussions, providing students with feedback, and grading best practices. Instructors also provide TA participants with feedback during small group hands-on teaching sessions.
Instructor contracts are nine months in length (August 2015 to April 2016), and include the possibility of renewal. The hiring committee gives preference to candidates who can commit to staying with the team for at least two years.
The number of hours will vary depending on participant enrollment in TATP sessions. Most instructors work approximately 60 hours per year. Each instructor facilitates one or two full weekend sessions in the fall (approximately 24 hours each), and is involved in additional programs as such as TA Day and the Winter Conference on Teaching as needed.
Compensation is $32.50/hour (the current TA rate of pay). Most contract hours occur in August and September, meaning that the TATP instructor position may be held at the same time as a Teaching Assistantship in the candidate’s home department.
