The 2019 Postdoctoral Research Forum was held in the Great Hall, Somerville House, on May 2. The event was hosted by the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) and the Postdoctoral Association at Western (PAW).
Over 100 postdoctoral scholars took part in a day-long agenda that covered a wide range of topics:
- Academic Job Process Panel with Dr. Matthew Davison, Professor, Dean of Science; Dr. Scott MacDougall-Shackleton, Professor, Chair of the Department of Psychology; Dr. Ruth Martin, Professor, Associate Dean Graduate and Postdoctoral Programs Health Sciences; and Dr. Anthony Straatman, Professor, Chair of the Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
- Postdoctoral Funding Opportunities with Dr. Eric Wilkey, Banting Fellowship; Dr. Danielle Nash, CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship; Dr. Thomas McMurrough, MITACS Elevate Fellowship; and Dr. Carina Prein, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.
- Converting a CV to Resume with Wendy Richards, PhD, Employment Counsellor; and Veronica Pavalache, Certified Resume Strategist.
The forum began with the 3 Minute Research (3MR) Competition that saw 21 postdocs compete for cash prizes.
The winners were:
- 1st Place: Molly Driediger (Occupational Therapy)
- 2nd Place: Roya Tadayon (Biochemistry)
- 3rd Place: Diana Sakae (Robarts Research Institute)
The forum also included the granting of two special awards:
- Supervisor of the Year Award: Dr. Trish Tucker, Associate Professor in the School of Occupational Therapy
- Postdoctoral Scholar of the Year Award: Dr. Roberta Bgeginski, School of Kinesiology
