The Centre for Teaching and Learning is pleased to provide the new Summer-Fall 2020 Programming Dates for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars.
We hope that you incorporate any and all relevant programs into your Fall Orientation activities, and we encourage all graduate students and postdoctoral scholars (new and returning) to attend workshops designed to help them prepare for their teaching assignments.
Teaching Assistant Training Program (TATP)

This is a four-day intensive training program for new TAs. It features two microteaching sessions, as well as modules on fair grading practices, diversity in the classroom, leading discussions, holding office hours, lesson design, and giving feedback to students.

Perspectives on Teaching Conference

Wednesday, September 2 (9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) and Thursday, September 3 (9:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.)
A two-day conference for all graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and staff designed to showcase teaching innovations at Western, and introduce instructors to best practices in student-centred instruction which can enhance the student experience. The theme for this Fall’s conference is mental health and wellness.
TA Day

Tuesday, September 8 (9:00 a.m. - 12 noon)
Designed for both new and returning graduate students, this half-day conference provides an introduction to teaching at Western and helps them prepare for their roles as TAs. In addition to 3 hours of synchronous online sessions on the morning of September 8, a number of asynchronous learning modules will be released to registrants throughout the week, with most focused on TAing in the online environment.
ABC Online Course Design Workshop for Course Instructors **New opportunity for experienced TAs

Friday, August 7 (1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
This synchronous workshop (with one hour of asynchronous prep-work) will assist first time and early-career instructors to rapidly map their course for the online environment.
Please note: Participants in this workshop must be teaching a course in the Fall or Winter term
