After nine years of running extremely successful and exciting events, the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies has decided that we will not be going ahead with a Western University 3MT competition this year.
We believe that the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with the competitive nature of the event, would add to the stress already being experienced by our graduate students as they focus on completing their degree requirements during this challenging time.
We want to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication from the Faculty Heat Coordinators, Associate Deans, Graduate Chairs, Graduate Coordinators/Assistants, staff members, and, of course, all the amazing graduate students who have taken part and volunteered their time to make this event a success in previous years. We thank all of you for your dedication and commitment over these past nine years.
Although we are stepping away from the 3MT model for 2021, we want to let you know that we are developing an exciting alternative in collaboration with our campus partners and Faculties across campus. This alternative model will take a "showcase" approach rather than a "competition" approach, and will use a format that is inclusive of the broad range of research and scholarly creativity undertaken by our graduate students.
Please look for our communication about what's next in the weeks ahead.
