Join us for the first-ever BGSA virtual research conference at the University of Toronto on May 11, 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Working in partnership with Hart House, this conference will serve as an open forum for Black graduate students to share their research with Black graduate students and professors from universities and colleges across the globe. This year's theme is "Celebrating Blackadamia" and will centere around the work, experiences and contributions of Black students and academics.
We are offering an open invitation to all Black students, staff and faculty, community members and also non-Black allies to take the time and opportunity to meet with current and former Black students from various walks of life and learn about the experiences of Black academics in the field.
This year's event programming will offer:
Conference Presentations
We are offering the ability for attendees to have a personalized experience by navigating between the various breakout rooms that will be organized based on the themes of the presentations.
Panel Discussion and Q&A session
Four Black academics will form a panel to provide insights about their experiences of being a Black person within the academic sector. All audience members will have the opportunity to interact with the panel by asking follow-up questions during the Q&A session.
Looking to showcase your research with a presentation?
Implementing a low barrier outreach approach, we will be accepting abstract or poster submissions from all academic fields to encourage participation. We also encourage students to apply regardless if they are at the proposal stage or have completed their entire research projects. The deadline to submit abstracts or poster submissions will be April 30th, 2021. Applicants with accepted abstract and oral submissions will be notified on an ongoing basis until May 4th, 2021.
