About the Talk
Carving a Career Path When Life Intervenes will explore how to move forward when faced with difficulties - using personal experiences.
By the end of the talk, participants will:
- recognize the importance of relationship in building a career.
- appreciate the building of resilience in the face of adversity.
- be able to question prior assumptions about the meaning of graduation.
- recognize the importance of community in their career pathway.
Presenter Bio
Dr. Opiyo Oloya, MED, PhD, LLD (honoris causa) is the inaugural Associate Vice-President of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Western University in London, Ontario. He was a teacher, principal and Superintendent of Education. He was born in Pamin-yai village, west of Gulu town in northern Uganda. He obtained a teaching degree at Queen’s in June 1986, a Master’s from the University of Ottawa in July 1988, and a PhD from York University. He was also awarded an honorary Doctorate of Law (LLD, honoris causa) by York University for his humanitarian work in 2012. He published Child to Soldier (2013) and Black Hawks Rising (2016). He lives with his partner Emily and young men, Oceng and Ogaba.
