CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Justice, Crime and Deviance Graduate Conference 2020

Wilfrid Laurier University's upcoming 8th-annual Justice, Crime, and Deviance: Regional Graduate Research and Networking Conference (JCD) will take place Saturday, March 28, 2020.

Proposals for presentations will now be accepted until February 15, 2020. Please send an abstract of 200-250 words to jcdconference@gmail.com. Please include the following:

• your full name
• a paper title
• institutional affiliation
• program of study
• type of presentation

Presentations are to be approximately 15 minutes in duration followed by a five-minute question period. Additional information about panels will be forthcoming via email updates, once the program is finalized.

The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Research and Academic Centre, located at Laurier's Brantford Campus - 150 Dalhousie Street. Registration will be located in the main lobby of the Research and Academic Centre West building. Room locations for panel sessions and details regarding the dinner social will be provided at a later date.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: NEST Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Faculty of Social Science is offering three Postdoctoral Fellowships to exceptional junior researchers whose proposed research supports the mandate of the Network for Economic and Social Trends (NEST).

The awards are valued at $45,000 per year and can commence at the beginning of any month between November 2019 and June 2020. These fellowships are for a one-year term with the possibility of renewal for one additional year.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: MEOPAR Postdoctoral Fellowship Awards

In 2019-20, the Marine Environmental Observation, Prediction and Response (MEOPAR) Network expects to offer three Postdoctoral Awards. The awards will provide top-up funding ($20,000/year) to highly-qualified postdoctoral candidates who have secured a base level of funding from other sources.

Proposed research activities must address MEOPAR’s organizational objective: To connect partners, resources and expertise to prepare for risks and take advantage of opportunities in the changing marine environment. Research must be linked to one of MEOPAR’s four challenge areas: Ocean Observation; Forecasting/Projection; Coastal Resilience; and Marine Operations/ Transportation.

The purpose of these awards is to bring new postdoctoral fellows into the network and to connect them with MEOPAR-funded researchers and Highly-Qualified Personnel (HQP). MEOPAR’s top-up funding will empower postdoctoral candidates to take full advantage of professional development and career-building opportunities, providing them with the ability to:

• Increase their stipend for financial flexibility;
• Participate in training and networking opportunities through MEOPAR;
• Present and discuss results at national and international conferences and other fora;
• Purchase or fund specialized equipment, travel, or supplies for their research; or
• Offset costs associated with publication.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Journal of Multidisciplinary Research at Trent (JMRT) 2019

If you are interested in publishing your research in the Journal of Multidisciplinary Research at Trent (JMRT), a peer-reviewed, open-access journal for graduate students, we are currently in the process of collecting original articles to be published in our second volume.

Submit your manuscript online until April 30, 2019 to be published on the JMRT online platform at the end of summer 2019 term. For author guidelines and further details, please see our Submissions page. 

JMRT was founded in 2017 with the goal of showcasing the research of graduate students using an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach, locally and nationally. Our journal is designed to help graduate students learn to write scientific publications and get accustomed to the review and journal production process.

Are you a current graduate student studying defence and security issues in Canada?

The Balsillie School of International Affairs, in partnership with the CDA Institute, are hosting the annual E3 (Engage, Exchange, Educate) Graduate Student Symposium (GSS) from May 6-8, 2019 in Waterloo, Ontario.  The E3 is the signature component of the CDA Institute’s Student Engagement Programme, for the cultivation of the next generation of Canadian security and defence scholars and public service leaders. Approximately 80 graduate students working toward their Master’s or Doctoral degrees in the fields of foreign policy, security, and defence are invited to participate.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Happily Ever After 13th Annual Legal Studies Graduate Conference

Carleton University’s Department of Law and Legal Studies is pleased to invite you to the 13th Annual Legal Studies Graduate Conference, to be held March 12, 2019.

The conference continues to strive to create a welcoming space for students, faculty, and community members to develop intellectual thought and conversation. All are welcome to attend.  Presenters are encouraged to present or previous papers and ongoing research, such as dissertation/thesis chapters, term papers, or ongoing work.

Submissions: Deadline February 8, 2019

Submissions are welcome for individual papers, panels, poster presentations, art installations and video presentations. All submissions should include your full name, institutional affiliation, the type of presentation proposed and an email address.

Please include a title, an abstract of up to 250 words, and up to five keywords that best describe your proposed presentation. If submitting as part of a panel, please identify the title of your panel and accompanying presentations in the body of your email.

We encourage submissions from wide-ranging disciplinary backgrounds by presenting on the craft that goes into both laws and stories, the fairy-tale and fallacy of just outcomes, and representation. Paper topics may include, but are not limited to:

• Socio-legal analyses of pop-culture, film, fiction, myths, and literature
• Consequential endings, ongoing stories, utopias, and dystopias
• Legal narratives and storytelling
• Cliffhangers, climaxes, and To Be Continued...
