Hughes’ presentation will run in conjunction with a mental health resource fair in the Atrium of the UCC, featuring on-campus and local services focused on fostering positive mental health and treating mental illness.
As the only Canadian to have won medals in both the Summer and the Winter Olympics, Hughes is a long-admired icon in Canadian athletics. After national recognition for her accomplishments in speed skating and cycling, Hughes began using her popularity as a platform to affect positive change across Canada by sharing her personal experiences with depression.
Several contests through social media will be open to students as the event approaches. Four students will win the chance to have lunch with Hughes during her visit, and many more will win a copy of her memoir. More details about these contests will appear on Facebook and on Twitter.
These giveaways are made possible thanks to the support of the Bookstore at Western.
