3 Minute Research Competition (3MR) - The 3 Minute Research Competition is a research communication exercise where postdoctoral scholars have 3 minutes or less to present their work and its impact to a diverse group of audience members. The exercise develops overall communication skills and competencies in the explanation of your research in layman's terms.
Registration is required to participate and attend the 3MR competition!

Grant Writing - This interactive workshop will provide early career researchers with practical steps to increase CIHR-funding success.
Dr. Maria Mathews will:
- Demystify the peer-review process.
- Describe peer reviewers’ perspective on reviewing applications.
- Highlight strategies to develop competitive applications.
Maria Mathews is a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. She is an applied health services and policy researcher. She holds a PhD in Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation from the University of Toronto and a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta, as well as undergraduate degrees in zoology and in French literature from the University of Calgary. Dr. Mathews leads a program of research on primary health care with interconnecting themes of the health workforce; the organization, integration, and delivery of care; and health care in rural communities. Her research has been supported by peer reviewed grants from tri-council, national, provincial, and university funding agencies. Dr. Mathews leads research teams which include distinguished researchers from across Canada, as well as policy makers from provincial health systems and Canadian health professional organizations. Dr. Mathews has an excellent record of service on peer review committees, especially with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), where she has been a panel chair for more than 10 years. In 2021, she was named an ‘Outstanding Reviewer’ by CIHR’s College of Reviewers in recognition of exemplary contribution to peer review.
