I am Ashleigh Aliberti, your 2016–2017 Women in Engineering (WiE) President, and I would like to officially welcome the Class of 2020 to Western Engineering, and welcome back everyone who is returning.
Being a part of WiE throughout my undergrad has been such a great experience and is something I have become very passionate about. I have seen how important it is for young women in this field to connect and interact with other women so they can share their experiences and begin to network themselves. It is crucial to form a network of people that may help you in the future and being a part of WiE is a great way to do so.
Not only is WiE a great networking experience, it also gives you the opportunity to help out young women in high school and elementary school that may not know what they want to pursue in their future. It has been so rewarding to help out young females with their career path by sharing my experience with them and giving them any advice if they need it.
Being the incoming WiE President for 2016-2017, I can’t wait to have a role where I have the opportunity to help bring awareness to the club and to help incoming students start their networking experience.
I think it is important for all females studying engineering at Western to join our Big Sister Little Sister program where they would have the opportunity to mentor and build a relationship with a first year student. It is rewarding and a great experience to support someone who is starting a new chapter in their lives because after all, we were there not too long ago.
I also recommend being a little sister if you are going into first year, as this program provides you with extra support if you need it and possibly a new friendship.

I look forward too seeing new and familiar faces throughout the school year!
Ashleigh Aliberti
WiE President 2016–2017
